Hope may be on the horizon for the start of school in September.

The B.C. Teachers’ Federation and B.C. Public Service Employers’ Association announced Thursday afternoon they’ve been talking to veteran mediator Vince Ready.

The statement says BCTF president Jim Iker and BCPSEA’s chief negotiator Peter Cameron met Aug. 8 and then asked Ready “to engage with them in exploratory talks.”

Ready met separately with each party, Aug. 13.

“Mr. Ready agreed to monitor the situation, and to resume exploratory talks or commence full mediation when he believes it will be productive,” the statement reads. “The parties agreed that they will not engage in public discussion pending further discussions with Mr. Ready.”

Tuesday, Sept. 2, is meant to be the first day of public school in Vancouver.
