Top 5 Vancouver Courier stories this week

Feb. 1-6. 2015

The real estate market is always a hot topic in this city, so it’s perhaps unsurprising that an opinion piece arguing that the second most unaffordable city in the world is actually more affordable than people think was our most-read story online this week. Full disclosure: The piece first appeared in Real Estate Weekly, who share the same owners as the Courier, and was written by editor Joannah Connolly.

Our second most popular story this week also, in a roundabout way, was also about real estate given that Robert Manglesdorf’s feature story focussed on young Vancouverites leaving the city, in part, due to the high cost of owning a home here.

Bikes and the need for more (or less) infrastructure for cyclists is also a neverending topic of conversation in Vancouver. Freelancer Chris Bruntlett’s column about the need for more public bike parking sparked a lot of debate on Reddit and was our third most read story.

A story about popular Tupper Tigers basketball coach Jeff Gourley by sports editor Megan Stewart was also popular online to come in fourth place. Unlike the Tigers themselves, who came in first this week to finish the AA/AAA city season with a 7-0 record.

Last but not least, arts reporter Cheryl Rossi’s story about a love-in planned tonight at the WISE Hall for local musician Geoff Berner also saw a lot of love online as our fifth most-clicked story.
