Top 5 Vancouver Courier stories this week

Feb. 22-27, 2015

1. A Feb. 19 story by education reporter Cheryl Rossi about a girl from Afghanistan who came to Canada as a refugee and is now flourishing at Sir Tupper secondary school was our most-read story online this week. In fact, it was so popular that is resulted in the Globe & Mail writing their own version of the story a week later.

2. A story by sports editor Megan Stewart about the underdog Thompson Trojans boys basketball team and their string of upset wins against provincially ranked AAAA teams, thanks in no small part to six-foot-three forward star forward Harry Brar.

3. Braking News columnist Brendan McAleer was plenty excited about the global launch of the Ford Focus RS. Judging by the traffic the story he wrote two weeks ago continues to bring in, turns out plenty of other people are too.

4. A story by Stewart about Windermere Warrior Ravi Basra, whose heroics helped earn the school third place at the AAAA city championship, was our fourth most popular story this week.

5. Last but not least in a sports-centric week for the Courier, Stewart’s opinion piece criticizing the Vancouver Women’s Field Hockey Association’s stance on mandatory skirts for players also drew lots of attention.
