Vancouver police are investigating a collision that sent two pedestrians to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Just before 6:30 p.m. Monday first responders were called to Burrard Street near Pacific Boulevard after a newer model silver Dodge caravan struck two pedestrians on a sidewalk near the Burrard Street Bridge.

The pedestrians, a 35-year-old woman and a 53-year-old woman, both from Vancouver, were taken to hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the van, a man in his 60s, was also taken to hospital for assessment.

Media relations officer, Sgt. Jason Robillard, said that collision investigators believe the van was heading south on Burrard Street, approaching Pacific Boulevard, when it jumped the curb and struck the two women, who were walking on the west sidewalk.

The cause of the collision has not yet been determined and the investigation is ongoing.
