The Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition, the 14-year-old regional cycling advocacy group oft called the VACC, has rebranded and adopted a new name, HUB: Your Cycling Connection.
In an announcement Tuesday morning, the member-based organization tested its new name. HUB strives to remove barriers to cycling and improve the quality of our communities, our health, the environment, and local economies.
HUB executive director Erin OMelinn said in statement, The brand refresh introduces a modern image that fits a new understanding of bicycles being a part of our lifestyles. We know that 40 to 60 per cent of people in Metro Vancouver are interested in cycling but are held back by some kind of challenge. Our goal is to make cycling an attractive transportation choice for everyone."

HUB, nevertheless identified in tomorrows newspaper as the VACC, is trying to energize its image and let cyclists know its reach goes beyond the city of Vancouver as a central organization for programming, advocacy and engagement. Find them online at bikehub.ca.
The organization has seven local committees around Metro Vancouver to address issues such as bicycles on transit, bike lanes across bridges, safe crossing signals and regional cycling master plans.
They run yearly bicycle awareness and advocacy programs such as Bike to Work and Bike to School and the Streetwise cycling courses, which have taught hundreds of immigrants and women to ride a bike. According to HUB, the organization has educated and motivated thousands of children, parents and grandparents.
HUB will throw a party with TransLink officials and city councillors to celebrate the year of the bike April 28 from 1 to 7 p.m. at the Woodwards Atrium (111 West Hastings St.).
Announcements are scheduled for 3 p.m.
From 1 to 4 p.m., HUB hosts a family-friendly event with a kids bike rodeo, face painting, unicycle station, bike decorating, prizes and more.
From 5 to 7 p.m., there will be refreshments and Momentum Magazine will operate a photo booth and give an award for the Best Dressed on a Bike.
