On vacation from England, Gale Walsh was swarmed by media Wednesday on the sand near the English Bay Beach boarhouse as she unsuspectingly lounged in one of the city’s new rental beach chairs -- and make a part of Vancouver history.
She was the first person to rent one of the blue-striped chairs through the service, which was introduced by the park board moments earlier.
Chairs and umbrellas will be rented from a mobile tent and installed by the vendor at a location of the client’s choosing. The service is operated by Blue Hole Investment, a Montreal-based hotelier.
Rentals are by the hour, full day or evening. Umbrella rentals start at $3 an hour and chairs $5 an hour.
