Theres one potentially big problem for book lovers: reading is something you can only do alone. Sure there can be other people in the room, but in essence its a solitary activity.
So how can one book lover fall in love with another book lover?
The Vancouver Public Library wants to help. Its launching an innovative new program called Read Dating. Participants pre-register and will be assigned a famous book character name along with a gmail account to ensure privacy.
Then, on either Feb. 13 (for people aged 35 to 55) or Feb. 15 (for people older than 55), participants gather at the library. They bring along their favourite book, movie or CD to use as their conversation-starter. They are given five minutes to chat with each person.
Participation is free but you do need to register by dropping by the popular reading information desk on the second level or calling 604-331-3691.
