The past weeks of rainy weather has made this month the 9th wettest April in Vancouver since 1941. And with a few more days remaining, we could climb a few more soggy notches in the record book.
“We definitely are on track to setting a weather record in terms of rain,” said Environment Canada meteorologist Matt MacDonald.
The amount of normal rainfall for April is 88.5 millimetres, but records at the YVR airport shows the monthly rainfall is already at 123.6 millimetres.
MacDonald said this is not a surprise since Vancouver only has had five dry days in April so far.
MacDonald said that the normal number of wet days in April is 15, which means in terms of frequency, we’re already well on our way to setting another record.
The wettest April was recorded in 1996 with a total of 172.3 millimetres. With four days left this month, MacDonald said we are likely to surpass this record.
This comes shortly after Vancouver broke a record last month for the gloomiest March since 1951, with only a total of 70.5 sunshine hours.
With a couple of rainy days expected for the rest of the month, the city is on its way to make it to the top — again. Hurray?
