Three Vancouver organizations have earned the respect and admiration of Tides Canada for their efforts to empower people to be a positive force in the world.
Tides Canada has chosen Out in Schools, Climate Smart and Shark Truth as among its top 10 organizations in the country. The awards recognize organizations that build innovative solutions to complex social and environmental issues facing Canadians today. The Tides Top 10 inspire people to take action, to think in new ways and to make the world a better place.
Out in Schools use[s] creativity and the powerful medium of film and video to engage youth and educators on issues related to homophobia and violence, promoting safer and diverse learning environments, says Tides Canada.. Out in Schools has reached out to more than 30,000 young people.
Shark Truth got the nod for diverting 9,500 bowls of shark fin soup from consumption, thereby preventing approximately 950 sharks from being killed for their fins. Its goal is to take shark fin soup off the menu in Canada within five to 10 years.
Climate Smart helps small and mid-sized businesses calculate emissions and measure and reduce their carbon footprint while cutting costs. Its measure more than 395,778 tonnes of CO2 thats 76,199 cars, 77,721 hot air balloons or 165,045 households.
