Vancouver police announced Tuesday that a 43-year-old Vancouver man has died following a collision downtown last week.

At around 5:45 a.m. on Aug. 27, a 29-year-old Vancouver man was driving a black Infinity west on Robson Street when his vehicle collided with a red Honda Civic heading north on Bidwell Street. The driver of the Civic was rushed to hospital with very serious injuries and died the next day.

Police say there were no other occupants in either vehicle and no one else was injured.

The death is Vancouver’s ninth traffic-related fatality of 2018. Vancouver police media relations officer Const. Jason Doucette said the driver of the Infinity remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

The collision is still under investigation, but Doucette said that based on the initial investigation speed and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors.
