Vancouver police are on the case after a rash of fires targeting portable washrooms in the downtown core.

According to a police press release, between Dec. 9 and Jan. 19 there were seven cases of porta-potties being deliberately set on fire. All the fires have been set in the late evening or early morning hours.

“In some instances, adjacent buildings have also caught on fire,” department spokesman Sgt. Jason Robillard said in the release. “Fortunately, no one has been injured.”

Arson investigators are asking anyone who has a portable washroom on their property to move it away from any building or structure, lock and secure it, and remove toilet paper and hand sanitizer overnight.

Police are advising people to be cautious and to report any suspicious activity around porta-potties to police.

Anyone with any information about the fires, or notices any suspicious activity around portable washrooms in downtown Vancouver during overnight hours, is asked to call the department’s arson unit at 604-717-2541.
