Vancouver police are looking for a Volkswagen Jetta involved in a hit-and-run accident that sent a 62-year-old pedestrian to hospital with serious injuries.
Just before 7:30 p.m. Saturday evening, a woman was walking from the east to west side of the intersection at Victoria Drive at Williams Street when she was struck by a southbound newer model silver Volkswagen Jetta. The driver didn’t stop and was last seen turning west within two blocks of the collision.
The woman was hit by the front of the car, causing her to go onto the hood and windshield, before flying several metres in the air and landing in the northbound traffic lane. She remains in serious medical condition in the hospital.
Officers from the VPD Collision Investigation Unit collected evidence from the scene, spoke with many witnesses, and located video footage of the incident and the suspect vehicle. Based on the evidence collected, police believe the driver should be aware that they hit the pedestrian, as the vehicle will have a cracked headlight lens on the driver’s side, and possible other front end damage.
“We are asking the driver to come forward and provide their version of the incident,” says VPD Constable Jason Doucette. “We have video of the incident and photos of the vehicle. It’s only a matter of time before we identify the person behind the wheel.”
