You want a rainbow? You have it, in brilliant, glorious Technicolour.
Although not an official part of Pride, the Honda Celebration of Light happens to conveniently fall at the same time, giving the hundreds of thousands of people who converge in Vancouver just one more reason to celebrate.
This year, the competition is between the United Kingdom (July 27), Canada (July 31) and August 3 (Thailand), with each show starting at 10pm.
Theres always competition among fireworks fans for the best viewing spots too, with everyone advised to stake out their patch of beach or grass early in the day. Several restaurants in the area also offer special viewing menus and the Kegs Lounge on August 3 has the added incentive of raising money for St. Pauls Hospital. The $129 ticket includes dinner, two drinks, and an up-close performance by Mother Mother as part of the free ShoreFest music concerts. (See page 3.)
Other highlights include the Red Bull Air Show, Concord Pacifics Seawall Challenge, a volleyball and bocce tournament, the West End Street Fest and the YVR Observation Deck.
A free app has schedules, maps and a simulcast of the fireworks soundtrack.
