Dramatic video has emerged of a truck going up in flames on Highway 99 in South Surrey.
The truck carrying hay caught fire on the highway about 4.30pm on Thursday, later shutting down southbound lanes.
The video, posted on YouTube, shows the truck completely engulfed by flames before firefighters arrived at the scene.
Surrey Fire Service Assistant Chief Chris Keon told the Courier the driver of the semi-trailer noticed smoke coming from the hay bales and pulled over, between the 24 Avenue and 16 Avenue overpasses.
He said firefighters had to pull a lot of hay off the truck to extinguish the fire, which caused a lot of smoke and forced the closure of the highway.
Surrey Fire Service tweeted crews responded to the blaze promptly and prevented the fire from spreading into the nearby trees.
