Kick off the New Year with a dose of European sophistication and old school charm. Salute to Vienna returns to the Orpheum Theatre Jan. 1, 2: 30 p.m. to recreate Vienna's famous "Neujahr-skonzert," (New Year's concert) featuring members of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, led by Viennese conductor Klaus Arp, and showcasing the elegance of European singers and dancers from the Vienna Imperial Ballet performing famous waltzes, polkas and operetta excerpts by "waltz king" Johann Strauss Jr. and his contemporaries.
