VSB hires new superintendent

Scott Robinson takes on role in March

Scott Robinson has been named the Vancouver School Board’s next Superintendent. He takes the role on March 1 and will replace Steve Cardwell, who's taking a new job at UBC.

Although the board conducted a national search, which attracted applications from senior educators from across Canada, Robinson already works for the VSB.

He’s been an associate superintendent with the district since 2012.

“I am very excited about the opportunity to serve as Superintendent of the Vancouver School Board,” Robinson said in a VSB press release. “This role is one of enormous responsibility and I plan to continue to be a relentless advocate for the children and families our incredible public school system serves.”

He’s held a range of senior educational roles in school districts across Metro Vancouver and at various levels of the K-12 system.

“Scott’s thorough understanding and leadership experience in the K-12 educational system made him a perfect choice to become the Vancouver School Board’s next Superintendent,” said VSB chair Christopher Richardson. “I feel confident that Scott has the vision, skills, experience and energy to guide the VSB and ensure we continue to support all of our diverse learners in our engaged and caring school communities.”

As an associate superintendent, Robinson was responsible for the educational operations and overall supervision of the VSB’s 110 elementary and secondary schools. His work has also included supervision of the district’s enrolment management process, educational policy reviews and revisions, distributed learning programs, student safety initiatives and International Education program.

Before being hired by the VSB, Robinson was an Assistant Superintendent in Richmond. He has been a principal at the elementary, middle school and secondary school levels in the Coquitlam School District.

Cardwell was expected to leave the district earlier, but delayed his move to ensure a smooth transition for the newly elected school board and a new seismic mitigation project office.
