What better way to end the year than jostling for dancing space in a massive coliseum?

The Contact Winter Festival is once again blasting through Vancouver, bigger than ever. This is a sequel to the 2012 Contact festival, which had thousands dancing to the likes of Deadmau5. This year, the festival sprawls over two days (December 26 and 27), with Skrillex, Diplo, and Tale of Us running the sound-systems of BC Place to their limits.

This is going to be a busy month for EDM in Vancouver, with a similarly gargantuan showcase (Solid) at the Pacific Coliseum on New Years Eve, and the party will continue right through the post-holiday daze of January.

Contact, the biggest electronic festival in Western Canada, is organized by Blueprint, the company behind last years Winter Festival as well as numerous club events throughout Vancouver.

We wanted to offer more content, more artists for the people. We have a healthy scene with more faces than before, says co-founder Alvaro Prol.

This also marks a growing trend in popularity of electronic music in general, especially in a city as comparatively small as Vancouver. It shows that there are literally thousands of EDM fans who are willing to exit the clubs and enter the arena.

There is a limited number of artists that can fill an arena Prol guesses that there may be as few as 15 or 20 such stars but the popularity of these events means that there are at least some faces who can transition to arena rockers.
