Description
The Westender, Vancouver’s longest-running alternative weekly, is looking for an Assistant Editor to join our small, dynamic newsroom. Candidates should have at least three years of journalism experience, and be eager to take on a diverse set of roles in addition to writing and editing.
Beginning immediately, the successful candidate will be able to define their skills and areas of interests under the guidance of the editor. Some stories will be assigned while the successful candidate will be free to create their own leads, beats and feature stories. The goal is to expand the community readership and reach of a title that has earned 18 BCYCNA and CCNA nominations in the past two years.
Qualifications
The Westender is appealing to journalists who are self starters, creative writers, innovators, and excited at the prospect of producing both research-based as well as more day-to-day coverage with a direct focus on city life in Vancouver.
Experience with long-form journalism and excellent packaging and copy-editing skills are an asset, as well as InDesign, social media and video-editing skills. Proficient use of a camera and access to a reliable mode of travel will be required.
