Westender nets eight Ma Murray nominations

The Westender has received eight finalist nominations for the BC Yukon Community Newspaper Association’s 2016 Ma Murray Awards.

The Westender has received eight finalist nominations for the BC Yukon Community Newspaper Association’s 2016 Ma Murray Awards. The awards recognize all aspects of the newspaper industry, including production, publishing, reporting, editing, advertising, photography, website design and community contribution.

Kristyn Anthony earned a nomination for her feature story “Strutting for Hope”, which helped raise awareness about the plight of Canada’s LGBTQ refugees. Westender’s annual Pride issue was also recognized in the Special Section Award category.

Westender produced publications The Growler and The Alchemist were both nominated in the Special Publications category. Westender was also recognized in a number of advertising and promotional categories.

Winners will be announced at the Ma Murray Awards gala, May 7, 2016.
