The Westender Vancouver newspaper has been nominated for nine Ma Murray BCYCNA awards, which recognize excellence in the community newspaper industry across BC and the Yukon.
Editor Kelsey Klassen is up for the prestigious Arts & Culture writing award for her story on the career of First Nations artist Lawrence Paul Yuxweluptun, alongside Reel People columnist Sabrina Furminger for her piece on the environmental documentary Fractured Land.
Vancouver Shakedown columnist Grant Lawrence has been nominated for the Neville Shanks Memorial Award for Historical Writing for his humorous feature on Kitsilano’s hippie past.
Creative manager Tara Rafiq and the Westender sales team have an impressive four nominations: Collaborative Ad Design for their Via Tevere campaign, Ad Design (circulation over 25,000) for Denman Liquor Store and the Growler craft beer handbook, and Newspaper Promotion for the Best of the City: Dining campaign.
Meanwhile, our boutique cocktail and spirits magazine, The Alchemist (led by editor Fiona Morrow), is nominated for best Special Publication. We are also proud to announce that, for the second year in a row, our annual Pride Guide edition has been nominated for best Special Section.
