Whitecaps host free community coaching clinic

Community, club and youth soccer coaches in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland are invited to attend a free coaching clinic hosted by the professionals on the Whitecaps FC coaching staff.

Community, club and youth soccer coaches in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland are invited to attend a free coaching clinic hosted by the professionals on the Whitecaps FC coaching staff.

The city's Major League Soccer club is holding the event to help participants hone their coaching techniques and in turn help players reach their full technical, tactical, mental and physical potential.

"This is an excellent opportunity for our technical staff to provide some great advice and coaching tips to community soccer coaches," said Whitecaps FC president Bob Lenarduzzi in a statement.

Martin Rennie, the head coach of the men's team, and Jesse Symons, who coaches the women's team, will be joined by Paul Richie, Marius Rovde and Craig Dalrymple. Rennie will address the participants and the Whitecaps coaches will demonstrate drills and coaching techniques before holding a question-and-answer forum.

The clinic runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23 at B.C. Place.

The inaugural clinic is sponsored by Tim Hortons and is limited to 1,000 participants. Coaches are invited to stay and watch the Whitecaps host the Colorado Rapids at B.C. Place.

Registration closes Sept. 17.
