Vancouver police are investigating after a woman died Wednesday morning after being hit by a car in the city’s West End.

The woman was hit just before 7 a.m. as she was walking on Pendrell near Bute. She was struck by a van in the north lane of Pendrell Street. She was rushed to hospital but died a short time later.

“The van allegedly involved in the collision had left the area but was located a short distance away,” Const. Jason Doucette said in a press release. “The driver, a 47-year-old man, has been taken into custody while investigators piece together what led to the woman’s death.”

He said charges could be pending.

“Our investigators are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the death,” Doucette said in an email. “Once they have the information, a decision will be made what, if any, charges are appropriate.”
