Tuesday was a rough day for inanimate objects in West Vancouver, police say.
Officers were called to investigate two incidents of drivers plowing into barriers within an hour on Tuesday morning.
Just after 9:15 a.m. a 67-year-old woman on the 2300 block of Haywood Avenue in Dundarave was trying to back out of her driveway when she inadvertently hit the gas and accelerated through her garage door. Damages costs are still being estimated.
Then, just before 10:30 a.m., emergency crews were called to an apartment on the 1900 block of Bellevue Avenue when a 72-year-old West Vancouver woman piloted her 2011 Subaru into a retaining wall and nearly into the building’s pool. In that case, police estimate $18,000 in damage was done to the vehicle and the retaining wall.
Both crashes are being pinned on driver error, police say, and there was no indication of drugs or alcohol being a factor.
“Sometimes in these circumstances, the facts of how these occurred can lead to officers submitting a request for a licence review. That wasn’t the case in either of these,” said Const. Jeff Palmer, West Vancouver police spokesman. “No violations tickets issued. Fortunately, it was just property damaged in both cases.”
