B.C. Premier Christy Clark announced at a press conference at Granville Island Friday that Burrard Bridge will be closed for a yoga class June 21 to mark International Day of Yoga.
The bridge will be closed from 4 a.m. to 11 a.m. for what Clark is hoping will be the largest Day of Yoga celebration outside of India.
“Yoga is one of India’s great gifts to the world,” she said. “It’s been a tremendous gift.”
The class will begin at 8:30 a.m., June 21, although participants are urged to arrive earlier to get a spot. Lululemon staff will also be there to help participants.
Clark called the event a good fit for Vancouver.
“If there is a home for yoga outside India, it would be here,” she said. “We hope it will be an opportunity for Vancouver to make a statement about who we are.”
