Basketball: Bruins win 41st invitational

Senior girls finish on top, senior boys finish fifth

The Britannia Buins senior girls basketball team won their 41st annual invitational tournament with a 76-58 final win over Burnaby Mountain on Jan. 17. 

Bruin Julian Duong was named the tournament MVP, and teammate Lilin Zhang won the three-point contest with 14 treys in three games. 

The first team all-stars were Burnaby Mountain's Jacey Bailey and Brooke Gabriel, Jeanne d'Arc Le from Britannia, Amar Abdelkarim from Byrne Creek and McNair's Tiara Dhillon.

On the boys' side of the action, Britannia finished fifth overall after a 77-74 loss to Gladstone. The lost their second game 72-64 to drop to the consolation bracket. 

Richmond's McNair won the tournament in a 82-70 victory over Windsor, and McNair's Owen Vint was named tournament MVP.

The first team all-stars were McNair's Kevin Yang, who also won the three-point contest with a tally of 14, Gladstone's Valentino Vo, Windsor's Brandon Meyers and Michael Holowaty, and Delta's Jake Cowley.
