TransLink wants riders to don jerseys for World Juniors in Vancouver and Victoria

Wear your favourite sports jersey Friday, Dec. 21 for “Jersey Day” to celebrate the upcoming 2019 IIHF World Junior ice hockey Championships in Vancouver and Victoria.

Flaunt any sport or team on Jersey Day to show Vancouver’s community support for the hosting the upcoming tournament.

TransLink is teaming up with the World Juniors and encouraging visitors and residents alike to travel safely with public transit for the busy games at Rogers Arena.

More than 300,000 visitors are expected in the city from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5 to take in the popular Canadian ice hockey tournament.

This week TransLink also announced transit increases to services in the new year, bringing a total of 275,000 new bus service hours in the last two years.

Increases include:

  • Increased service at busy times to reduce overcrowding and pass-ups.
  • 23 Beach/Yaletown/Main Street Station – Service is increasing to every 12 minutes (up from 15) between 7 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on weekdays.
  • 116 Metrotown Station/Edmonds Station – Service is increasing to every 15 minutes (up from 20) from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.
  • 388 Carvolth Exchange/ 22nd Street Station – Community shuttle buses are switching to full-size 40-foot (12 metres) buses to reduce overcrowding and pass-ups.
  • Other routes with increased service include the 312, 319, 325, 351 and 746.
