The Network Hub is hosting their second annual Freelance Camp this Saturday at their “new” New Westminster location.
Conferences are held all the time in this city and over the last few years we’ve heard a lot about the Unconference. The term seems to be used loosely and you can even say abused.

Minna Van is the founder and the driving force behind the Network Hub and Freelance Camp. I had a chance to talk to her about this true unconference.
So Minna, what makes this an unconference? What is your format for the day?
This is a real grass roots camp that’s all about the content. The schedule is set the morning of the event. We start the day off with guests pitching to be presenters for the day and the freelancers vote on who they want to hear speak. The attendees really appreciate having a choice as to who and what they want to hear. Its about sharing information, successful local freelancers share their stories and insights.

Why did you decide to put on the Freelance Camp?
Vancouver is a very entrepreneurial city, so many people either already do or are thinking about working independently, running their own business, or freelancing. The Freelance Camp brings these people together to connect, share knowledge, and become better freelancers. I really want people to leave with more information that they came and have the chance to connect and network as well.
The Network Hub was created to provide a shared workspace for those same individuals.
Do you have any keynote speakers?
Yes, we have Mike Vardy from Victoria who is the Canada Editor at The Next Web. He’s going to do a lunch time talk about the productivity diet.
To close the day we have local stand-up comedian Greg Kettner, who branched out on his own to make a living as a comic.
Any other highlights?
We’ll also have yoga breaks from Yoga on the Flow, there will be prizes and gifts and we’re incorporating Google+ Hangouts.
It’s going to be a great event, all of you freelancers be sure to attend!
