Going to a show? What to know about the 2024 bag policies at Vancouver's major arenas

The times are changing...and what you can carry with you inside a stadium is, too.

Vancouver's biggest sports and concert stadiums have stricter rules in place for bags and other personal items.

Following tightened rules south of the border, Canadian venues have started increasing security measures, including the size and type of bags you can bring into places that host large crowds.

Thousands of fans will attend Taylor Swift's Eras Tour at BC Place for her three shows in December. But many of these Swifties are coming from out of town (check out the already surging hotel prices) and might not be familiar with the stadium's newer policies.

The multi-purpose stadium is home to the Vancouver Whitecaps and other big sporting events, including the Rugby Sevens.

BC Place bag allowances

BC PavCo spokesperson Jenny McKenzie told V.I.A. that the stadium's "standard bag policy" will be in place for Swift's shows.

The standard bag policy allows "small purses or belt bags" up to 6.5” by 8.5" and clear bags up to 12” by 12” by 6." The stadium may make exceptions for diaper bags and medically necessary items (see second slide).

"If a medical bag is necessary, we encourage guests to reach out to BC Place in advance to receive a medical exemption, as it will streamline entry on event day," she said.

BC Place says its policy adheres to industry standards and provides "a safe and secure environment for guests and staff." Guests with items that can't be checked in may store them for a check-in fee of $10.

Prohibited bags at BC Place include:

  • Purse over 6.5” x 8.5”
  • Backpack (including clear backpacks)
  • Mesh bag
  • Camera bag
  • Binoculars case
  • Seat cushion
  • Non-clear belt bag over 6.5” x 8.5”
  • Tinted plastic bag
  • Printed pattern plastic bag
  • Non-clear tote bag
  • Cinch
  • Luggage
  • Cooler
  • Container bag

The stadium also has specific policies on costumes and masks.

Rogers Arena bag allowances

Rogers Arena does not allow purses, backpacks, or bags larger than 14” by 14” by 6."

You cannot check an item at the arena if it isn't permitted. Guests will be required to return their bags to their vehicles or another secure area before admittance.
