Are you or someone on your holiday gift list an animal lover?
The BC SPCA is a non-profit animal welfare organization that strives to enforce animal protection legislation, as well as run 44 animal shelters across the province. Being a non-profit, the organization depends on donations in order to help fund its programs.
Every year, countless animals end up in shelters, and many of them are in extremely poor health. Whether they require an operation, rehabilitation, or temporary shelter, funds are required in order to help them recover or find a safe home.
A great way to give back over the holidays is to send an e-Card to a loved one with a donation to the SPCA. You may let them know you’ve saved a puppy or kitten, or provided an important service in the lives of one of the animals. Of course, you can simply make a donation yourself, but it is a very thoughtful gift idea.
Further, there are many interesting animal gifts to choose from. Have a buddy that thinks owls are "owlsome?" Well, there's the "Buy Me Dinner! Owl" donation for $12.
"Injured owls often come to Wild ARC after being hit by cars as they hunt along busy roadsides," reads the description.
"Before they can return to the wild, we make sure they’re healthy and able to hunt. Every meal gets these wild patients one step closer to release back in nature."
Similarly, the "Cleaning and Grooming for neglected or abused animals" donation offers animals an essential service for $57 who have been severely neglected.
"Cleaning and grooming seems like a luxury, but it can be lifesaving. Severe matting can lead to severe skin infections and restricted blood flow which can make amputation necessary. Severely neglected, Joey was in desperate need of a grooming. Freeing him from the mats pulling at his skin and causing him pain was a gift this boy was long overdue," describes the story of a sweet pooch named Joey.
"This gift gives an animal like Joey a chance to start fresh; both strengthening their body and helping a potential adoptive family see past the outer neglect to the loving heart within."
