The Burnaby firefighters search and rescue team has located a missing Canadian in the area of the Bahamas worst hit by Hurricane Dorian last week.
Dale Hill was one of three Canadians reported missing on the Abaco Islands in the northern Bahamas after the devastating storm stalled over the area last weekend, levelling communities and knocking out communications.
Burnaby fire Captain Ian Hetherington and retired Captain Mark Pullen located Hill at his home in Pelican Shore, Marsh Harbour Wednesday morning, according to Burnaby firefighters’ union president Jeff Clark.
“He was happy to see our team,” Clark said in an email. “All phone lines are down with no cell service.”
The firefighters and search dogs are still working to locate two other Canadians last known to be in Treasure Cay, according to the Canadian consulate in Nassau.
The 13-member Burnaby firefighters search and rescue team, which arrived in Abaco Monday, have divided into two groups, according to Clark.
A group of seven and two dogs are searching The Mudd, an Abaco Island shantytown razed by the hurricane.
The six remaining team members and two dogs are searching for the missing Canadians.
