Despite the pandemic, many are hoping the Year of the Ox will bring prosperity.

Despite the usual festive frivolity going mostly virtual for Lunar New Year, the local community is still hoping for prosperity in the coming months. While the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is complicating social gatherings, the message remains the same.

For the first time in 25 years, Richmond's Aberdeen Centre countdown will be online. Instead, a pre-recorded program will include lion dancers, fortune-tellers, and singers.

While the Year of the Ox will be celebrated mainly by the Chinese community, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. CEO Queenie Choo says it's also a chance to appreciate our diversity. According to Choo, COVID-19 has also exposed discrimination against the Chinese population and Lunar New Year marks an occasion for us to be more open-minded.
