The new Celebrate BC Festival takes place Monday, Aug. 4, 2025 (the BC Day holiday) in Coquitlam. The free, family-friendly event will feature a massive salmon barbecue.

The largest salmon barbecue in B.C.'s fish-filled history will be the centrepiece to a new festival taking place in Metro Vancouver.

The Celebrate BC Festival is launching, fittingly, this B.C. Day (Monday, Aug. 4) in Coquitlam on the traditional territories of the Kwikwetlem First Nation. The inaugural festival was announced earlier this month as a new event to celebrate the province.

To that end, plenty of local art, food, and culture will be spotlighted during the day-long event, including the salmon.

"In a tribute to B.C.’s coastal heritage and Indigenous traditions, the event will play host to the largest salmon barbecue in provincial history, with a whopping 2,000 pounds of barbecued wild salmon prepared on-site by some of B.C.’s most acclaimed chefs," according to a press release.

It won't all be about the fish, though.

An Indigenous fashion show is planned, organized by Vancouver Indigenous Fashion Week; a live music stage will be headlined by Juno winner George Leach; and a wine and beer garden will be serving B.C. beverages.

Cultural demonstrations, a kids' zone, and a zipline will all be on-site as well. A photo contest based on B.C. is taking place, and submissions are now open.

"Celebrate BC is envisioned as a new B.C. Day tradition honouring the stories, communities, and cultures that make up our province," add organizers.
