PEAK PERFORMANCE PROJECT - THE PAINTED BIRDS

The PEAK Performance Project is a seven-year, 5.29 million dollar contest open to all musicians in British Columbia. The project was created by Vancouver's very own 100.5 The PEAK and Music BC to develop BC based emerging artists.

Every year, twenty finalists from BC will receive an intensive, one week training program in the music business, live performance, songwriting, marketing and promotion. From these, the top three will be crowned as the PEAK Performers of the year and will share $275,000 in cash for career development!

Over the coming weeks we'll be introducing you to all of this year's participating artists with quick interviews about the project, the other artists, and a little bit of Vancouver! Vote now for your favourite top 19 at www.peakperformanceproject.com.

Second up is The Painted Birds, a rock group hailing from this fair city of ours. They’ll be playing The Cellar on October 15th, and the only way to get into the showcase is by listening to 100.5 The Peak FM to win tickets! Limited tickets will also be released at the door.

Who's your favorite artist(s) in the Peak Performance Project and why?

We Are The City, because there's music and there's MUSIC. WATC make music that can change lives and they definitely changed mine.

What was the most valuable thing you took away from Boot Camp?

You'll be the most successful when you choose to treat your projects and the people you work with, with positivity, love and care.

What is one thing you wish you brought to Boot Camp, but didn’t?

Our old drummer Shane Lynch. Though Shane quit the band in February this year on his own terms, I truly feel one of the main reasons we made it into the top 20 was due to our arduous work on the road the last couple of years. Shane was with us that whole time and nobody cared more about the craft than Shane at times. I sometimes wish he could have been part of this amazing opportunity.

What’s your favorite venue to play at in BC?

Salmar Classic Theatre. There's nothing like coming home. And it's one of the coolest old theatres around.

Where is your favorite hangout in Vancouver?

Ebei Sushi at 41st and Granville. All you can eat sushi after 9:30 pm. Kenny will serve you with grace and allow you to hop the lineup if you've been there as much as we have.

If you win the grand prize, what are you going to put the money towards?

Definitely a new recording project. Either a new album or a series of EP's and the marketing and touring of those projects.
