In a recent red carpet interview discussing how much he loves Canada, star Pedro Pascal let slip that the cast of The Last of Us would be heading back there to film the show's second season.

The first season of the popular HBO television series was filmed in and around Calgary but the tease from Pascal had people wondering if perhaps the show would set up shop elsewhere in Canada.

The series is based on a successful video game of the same name and a significant amount of Part II takes place in the Pacific Northwest so it wasn't a stretch to hope that the show might be coming to Vancouver.

Well, Vancouver fans of the show can officially get excited because Deadline just confirmed that The Last of Us will indeed be filming the second season in our fair city.

Metro Vancouver and presumably the surrounding Lower Mainland will be transformed into a post-apocalyptic world after a global pandemic destroys civilization (kind of on the nose).

Pascal plays a hardened survivor tasked with protecting 14-year-old Ellie (Bella Ramsey) who may be humanity's last hope.

"We are incredibly excited to welcome The Last of Us to our city as they bring the production of their next season to Hollywood North," said Vancouver mayor Ken Sim in a statement Friday.

The Last of Us is one of the biggest productions ever filmed in Canada and one of the largest shows on television today," the mayor continued, adding: "The choice to move filming to Vancouver is a demonstration of our city’s continued strength in the film and television sector."
