Welcome to The Playground, a place for Vancouver families.Every week I post a roundup of upcoming family-friendly events and activities. I’m always on the lookout for fun stuff to do, so if there’s something happening that you think I should know about, don't hesitate to contact me.This weeks events include a crafty birthday celebration, a couple festivals and the return of Movies for Mommies. |
On a evening bike ride along the Central Valley Trail, we stumbled upon Deer Lake park in Burnaby. I'm sure this place isn't new to most of you but did you know that you can rent row boats, paddle boats, canoes and kayaks? Boat Rentals are available daily in the summer, on weekends and “sunny days” in the spring and fall. Since it looks like summer has decided to stick around awhile longer so pack up the family (with a picnic) and set sail.
We went on a weekday evening and had the lake to ourselves. Sadie really enjoyed watching the ducks and lily pads and waving to the folks on the surrounding paths.
With rental rates starting at just $17/hour, it's a great escape in the middle of the city. If you time it just right, I'm sure you can take in one heck of a sunset.
