The Vancouver Public Library is holding an educational event to teach people about camping.

Parks Canada and the Vancouver Public Library are joining up to help people learn the basics of camping.

The two organizations are holding a 'Trip Planning 101' event online, from 2 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 18.

Participants will learn how to book a campsite, what to pack and how to write a trip plan for safe, fun camping; it's ideal for inexperienced campers to learn the essentials.

"Making sure to plan ahead before any trip will help you feel confident and comfortable spending time in nature!" states the library online.

The park agency's Learn-to-Camp team will lead the event. For those unable to attend the event, Learn-to-Camp has a website with the basics and tips for anyone who hasn't camped before but wants to learn.

While travelling into the interior isn't suggested right now, the tips could be helpful groundwork for camping later this year or in advance of next year's seasons.

The event is free but registration is required.
