Sing It Forward (#SingItFwd) is a fundraising event masterminded by David Vertesi of Hey Ocean! and Ambrosia Humphrey, VP of Talent at Hootsuite, to benefit the St. James Music Academy For Kids, a non-profit music education program based out of St. James Church. The SJMA offers high quality music instruction to children living in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside at no cost to students’ families. Started just three years ago, the event passed the $100,000 mark this year. |
Beyond fundraising, the founders of #SingItFwd hope to provoke others to try and make a difference at a local grassroots level. “The whole idea is to rally people for a great cause that has a real and immediate impact on their community”, says Vertesi. “In the process, we hope to inspire them to continue to do the same in their own lives, however big or small that may be.” Here at Vancouver Is Awesome, we do our part by hosting videos created by local filmmakers in collaboration with the artists playing the show and the kids in the program.
