Vancouver's Chinatown is hosting two days of festivities next month in the middle of the historic neighbourhood.
The intersection of Keefer and Columbia streets, next to Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Park, will be the middle of the 23rd annual Vancouver Chinatown Festival on July 12 and 13. The street festival features live performances, a cultural corner, kids activities, and more.
"Last year, the event was an overwhelming success hosting tens of thousands of visitors to our vibrant Chinatown community. We celebrated the diversity of the community and showcased Chinatown as an inclusive, sustainable, and resilient neighbourhood," reads the festival's website.
While based in Chinatown, the festival will have a multicultural mix of performers, from K-pop to Brazilian samba on stage. There will also be a children's theatre set up with storytelling, characters like Anna and Elsa, and presentations from Science World.
In the "Cultural Diversity Corner" there'll be a giant mahjong game set up, lantern making, and calligraphy painting, and the start point for walking tours with Chinatown tour guide Bob Sung. Festival attendees will also have the chance at some free tickets to the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, Chinese Canadian Museum, and Chinatown Storytelling Centre.
