Anyone looking for the purr-fect Sunday should keep Aug. 24 open.
That's when the first Vancouver Cat Tour will take place, with participants visiting more than a dozen friendly felines in Mount Pleasant.
"I walk my cat around my block and I see a lot of cats, so I thought this would be cool to do in our neighbourhood," co-organizer Perri Lo tells V.I.A.
The event follows in the pawsteps of others in Minneapolis, Toronto, and Victoria. Lo was inspired to create one for Vancouver when she was sent a video of the Minneapolis event by co-organizer (and someone familiar with Vancouver tours) Christine Hagemoen.
"The cats stay at their houses and we do the parading," explains Lo.
Sometimes referred to as a cat parade or cat walk, the tour will see humans parading through Mount Pleasant to see neighbourhood cats. It's probably easier than herding cats around.
"Christine and I are leading the walk," says Lo. "We'll see them from the windows or balconies; Maybe if the cat's an outdoor cat, we'll see them on the front lawn."
At each cat, the tour leaders will share some factoids and stories of the felines.
Interacting with the cats will depend on the owners and the mood of the cat.
While more than 70 applications for cats were sent in, the pair have narrowed the tour to a more manageable amount.
"We're focusing on two parts of Mount Pleasant, and we're expecting around 15 cats," says Lo.
The tour will end at Catoro Cafe, the Mount Pleasant cat cafe and rescue.
As it's just the pair of them organizing and hosting, only a single tour is currently planned right now and will be capped at 50 people.
Registration for the first tour will open up in August, Lo says, and there will be a small registration fee, with proceeds going to Catoro. A meeting place will be sent to those registered close to the tour date.
Lo says she hopes to do more tours, and hopes others take on the idea in other neighbourhoods.
