1950s burgers and shakes coming to Steveston

A Burnaby restaurant is expanding to Richmond, replacing Cocoru Beer & Chicken near Steveston's Fisherman's Wharf.

A new burger joint will transport Steveston community members back to the 1950s next month.

Sharp-eyed community members recently spotted the new sign for "50's Burger Restaurant" outside what used to be Cocoru Beer & Chicken on Bayview Street, next to Waves Coffee House.

The restaurant is under the same ownership as diner-themed 50's Burgers in Burnaby, which boasts homemade burgers, hotdogs, fried chicken, poutine and milkshake flavours ranging from the classic vanilla shake to root beer, raspberry cheesecake and banana fudge.

A look inside the store shows renovations are still underway, and the restaurant is still hiring staff according to the sign.

Its address is 210-3791 Bayview Street and the Richmond News was told by an employee the soft opening is expected to take place in mid-February.
