After more than 20 years retro Vancouver burger joint quietly shuts down

No explanation has been shared publicly

It appears the Fairview burger joint Moderne Burger is no more.

Originally the retro-styled burger diner opened in 2001 on the 2500 block of West Broadway, but in 2018 that spot shuttered due to a development. However, in 2019 a new Moderne Burger opened down the street at 865 West Broadway as a more downscale version of the original location.

There it neighboured a Tim Hortons.

That new location appears to have quietly been vacated by Moderne Burger sometime in mid-February, 2023. The space is empty of their branding except the sign outside, and there are no notices offering an explanation.

On social media, Moderne Burger's accounts were active up until early February, with the last post on Instagram suggesting a giant cheeseburger as a "rainy day fix." There's no mention of closure or relocation. On its website, there's no mention of a closure, relocation, or renovation, though it's unclear when it was last updated.

Vancouver Is Awesome has reached out and will update this story with new information when it's available.
