I've been hearing about this place on Lonsdale for awhile, where they apparently have the most amazing nuts. Well, I know it's kinda hypocritical complaining about the over use of the word 'amazing' (opposed to AWESOME!) but, what the heck isn't amazing these days? So I walked, and didn't run, to check this place out....I mean how good can a nut be?
Well, after one too many sweetbag/slurpee combos, I've been easing off the junk, and looking for some healthier alternatives, so it was time to check it out.
Ayoub's was right up my alley, with their huge selection of dried fruit and nuts. The first thing I noticed was the presentation, it's beautiful, but really what this place is about is quality. Ayoub scours the earth for the best nuts money can buy, imports them, roasts them to perfection, the nuts are lightly flavoured, and then he serves them fresh. I tried the pistachios, and it was the first time I have ever contemplating eating a shell...they were that good. The flavour was a perfect blend of salt, lime, and saffron. I really needed to balance out the saltiness of the pistachios, so I chose some prunes. Which really made me a believer, they were wonderful, they tasted like dried plums... not prunes....exotic... not geriatric.
So in conclusion, while I am still adamant that the word 'amazing' is over used these days.....I must admit....these nuts....
