'I really hope this is just a "see you later!"': Eco-friendly Vancouver cafe announces closure

"We just have 4 more weeks left in this space"

The Kind Cafe in Mount Pleasant, Vancouver, is shutting down.

Vancouver is becoming a less "Kind" place.

That's because the Kind Cafe in Mount Pleasant has announced it's closing next month, as they only have "four more weeks left in this space."

"With so much sadness, we are unfortunately closing Kind Cafe & Eatery here on Main Street," the café shares on Instagram.

The cafe, which focused on eco-friendly goals and vegan food, opened in 2019, just prior to the pandemic. Among their sustainability practices were the use of reusable cloths, no single-use plastics (before bylaws were in place), and encouraging people to bring their own containers to take home leftovers.

They also made their own vegan dairy products and had a selection of gluten-, soy-, and nut-free options.

While the cafe's management has announced its closure, it appears they're not out of the restaurant game.

"We hope to see all of you in our final weeks, though I really hope this is just a ‘see you later!’ and not a ‘goodbye,’" they write on Instagram.

Kind Cafe's neighbour also recently closed. Planetary Burger/Kitchen shuttered its Main Street location in December of 2022.
