Independent Vancouver pizza place shuts down operations quietly

Those looking to have a piece of pizza by English Bay beach will have to bring their own slice.

See the Sea Cafe was only been open a couple years near English Bay before closing down their West End pizza shop.

A family-run pizza shop in Vancouver's West End has quietly closed up.

See the Sea Cafe, which was true to its name and within sight of English Bay, has permanently closed the pizza place at 1168 Denman St. Along with its variety of pizzas there were pastas and side dishes at the West End shop.

While ownership didn't announce its closure online or onsite, See the Sea's social media accounts have gone quiet, no one is answering their phone, and the city lists its business license as "gone out of business." It's unclear when it closed, but reviews for the pizza joint were being posted online up until September.

Prior to being See the Sea the location was Engelsea Pizza; it appears early in 2022 or in 2021 it was either sold or rebranded into See the Sea. Engelsea itself was short-lived, having opened in October 2019.

Prior to that, the location was the home to the Cake Club, which continued to sell cupcakes at Englesea, after that cupcake business closed its doors on Denman. The Cake Club had replaced the longtime, and similar, shop Cupcakes.
