I used to work with this girl who was French...like from France.  We made the usual, 'what is the difference?' type conversation about Canada and France, how many holidays the French got, why they are always protesting things... why Vancouverites are always 'sorry'... that kind of thing...The one topic though that really angered her was cheese.

'Zer is no cheese 'ere!'

'What do you mean?  We have Cracker Barrell...Black Diamond....we have cheese in a can!  Bet you don't have that in France....'

'CHEESE IS NOT ORRRRANGE!!!!'

Well...we agreed to disagree on that one, and I didn't bring up cheese again, but one day very calmly she let me on her little secret.  'Zer is one place...only one place...: Les Amis Du Fromage!', she whispered.  It sounded so cool.   Someone with better than French 12 help me with this one....does that mean 'The friends of cheese?'  Is it like "Me and Gouda are total BFF's!' or is it friends that are actually made from cheese?  It's neither right?  I'm glad I'm asking you and not her.

I recently popped by their new digs at  843 East Hastings Street, man they got a lot of cheese up in there, clearly I am no cheese expert, but this has to be one of the best selections in the city.  Foodies are gonna love this place too being right up the street from Gourmet Warehouse, and a hop skip and a jump away from the drive.  The restaurant space Au Petit Chavignol looks interesting, sounds like they are opening for lunch soon which has me excited, I'll be there with a post to follow....hopefully without the bad French accent.
