Even if your New Year's resolution was to cook more and dine out less, there are still plenty of days for bending the rules in January.
With our ever-changing restaurant scene not taking much of a pause for the holidays, there are plenty of just-opened and nearly-open places worth giving a try.
Here are five new Vancouver restaurants to check out this January.
The final restaurant in the impressive bundle of new dining options tucked into the Parq Vancouver casino and hotel complex is The Victor. The elegant modern steakhouse is situated on the sixth-floor rooftop level, and is open daily for dinner, cocktails, and dessert. In addition to prime cuts of meat, the menu also showcases top-quality Canadian fare, including raw bar items and sushi.
Address: 39 Smithe Street
Spade is the new Commercial Drive day-to-night cafe and bar/resto concept from the mind behind Vancouver's Prado Cafe. You will find Italian-inspired food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, an excellent coffee program, and, come evening, craft cocktails and a nighttime vibe.
Address: 1858 Commercial Drive
DiBeppe is another kind of two-fer that has taken over the Joe Pizza space in Gastown (fear not, JP fans--it's shifted operations to their UBC location). The business is a caffe and a restaurant; the caffe takes up the primary space and offers coffee, pastry, sandwiches, snacks, and light bites from 11 am to 9 pm Wednesday to Sunday. The restaurant portion offers dinner service only, and is sort of hidden within the caffe; they serve Italian fare from 5 pm to late, Wednesday to Sunday.
Address: 8 West Cordova
It's a bit of old school Chinatown in the midst of an evolving Chinatown. This modest restaurant focuses on the simple art of Chinese BBQ. Follow your nose to the shop with the BBQ pork and ducks in the window, and settle in for a feast of classic meats and sides.
Address: 130 East Pender Street
We've been patiently waiting the arrival of Autostrada, the new venture from Vancouver chef Lucais Syme. Named for a kind of road in Italy, Autostrada will indeed be all things Italian, and, of course, be all about that beautiful pasta. Most recently, their projected opening is mid-January.
Address: 4811 Main Street
