Gastown's Pourhouse has brought back their weekend brunch, with live music

After a three year pause, Gastown's vintage-vibed Pourhouse has revived their popular weekend brunch service.

After a three year pause, Gastown's vintage-vibed Pourhouse has revived their popular weekend brunch service. The cozy cocktail bar and restaurant kicked off the new brunch this month, and have put live music in the mix on Sundays to make for a lively midday feast.

The menu was designed by Executive Chef Alessandro Vianello, and features some of Pourhouse's longstanding classics as well as fresh fare to round out the array of small plates, sweet bites, breakfast eats, and anytime dishes.

Customers can tuck into hearty favourites like Pourhouse's signature Scotch Egg, which features a jammy-yolk egg nestled in a cocoon of juicy meat, lightly breaded and deep fried, served with a subtly spiced mayo. They have their take on Devils on Horseback, made here with dehydrated plums stuffed with Gruyère and wrapped in bacon with house-made barbecue sauce, as well as brunch-only dishes like a zippy and light cured duck salad with arugula and compressed melon, or a Tuna Conserva (tuna in olive oil with capers, dried tomatoes, and sourdough).

A Carrot Cake Bomboloni, listed under starters, can either kick your meal off with a gently sweetened start, or the bread-like doughnut filled with carrot and date can end off your brunch, dessert-style.

Breakfast-style dishes range from a Mushroom Frittata to a Veggie Hash, a classic eggy breakfast, or French Toast with pineapple and rum sauce. Look for some Pourhouse specialties that offer a bit of a twist on typical brunch fare, including a Breakfast Sandwich made with hearty, thick peameal bacon, an egg, and maple mayo, with a big deli pickle and fried potatoes on the side.

One other standout dish is their Cotechino sausage and beans, a rich and filling serving of tender gigante beans studded with sweet bits of sausage, topped with a poached egg and drizzled with salsa verde. This bowl is like a treasure box of flavours.

Pair your brunch with drinks from Pourhouse's acclaimed bar, including their riff on a bellini made with Aperol and cantaloupe and a dangerously smooth and drinkable Breakfast Negroni, as well as spiked coffees.
