Watch: Vancouver's annual off-season food truck festival is up and running

Welcome to Raincouver, where we brave the elements for a wintertime food truck festival.

Welcome to Raincouver, where we brave the elements for a wintertime food truck festival. That's right, Street Food City, the popular annual event that's part of Dine Out Vancouver, is up and running - rain or shine - with several food trucks dishing up their eats in the heart of downtown.

Now in its eleventh year, Street Food City kicked off over the weekend and runs through Jan. 29. The event finds a handful of the region's top food trucks and carts chilling (sometimes a little more literally) at the šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énk Square (formerly known as the Vancouver Art Gallery Plaza).

Open daily for lunch and through the afternoon and into the evening on weekends, Street Food City finds a rotating selection of trucks set up along with tented tables, making it a great way to get a meal on wheels - and eat it al fresco - even in January. Of course, if you grab your eats to go and seek out somewhere indoors to enjoy them, that's totally understandable.

Taste your way around the globe with things like Korean fried chicken from Disco Cheetah, fully vegan Middle Eastern fare from Chickpea, or fun Filipino food from Shameless Buns. You can even warm up with a hot chocolate from the Aperitivo Truck, which is one of the participants in the Greater Vancouver Hot Chocolate Festival.

This year's selection of vendors features the following:

  • Aperitivo Truck
  • Cazba
  • Chickpea
  • Disco Cheetah
  • El Cartel
  • Green Coast Coffee
  • Indish
  • Mama’s Fish & Chips
  • Melt City
  • Mom’s Grilled Cheese
  • Mr. Arancino
  • Reel Mac & Cheese
  • Shameless Buns
  • Slavic Rolls
  • Super Thai
  • Taste Malaysia
  • Tornado Potato
  • Via Tevere Pizzeria

The remaining hours of operation for Street Food City are Monday, Jan. 23 through Friday, Jan. 27 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 28 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday Jan. 29 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The event is located on the north side of the Vancouver Art Gallery on Georgia Street between Howe and Hornby.
