Sweet Treat #34: Purple Yam and Coconut Gelato
Yup, we're still on the same ice cream kick as last week. Technically this is gelato, so you know... different enough! Anyway, one of the best things about life on the West Coast is that frozen treats are acceptable year-round. That extra time seems to equal more experimentation, particularly at Amato Gelato Cafe, who after releasing an activated charcoal flavour, is back at it again with an ube (pronounced wooo-bae) and coconut concoction. Found in many desserts around the world, ube is essentially a purple yam. With the coconut, it's a fantastic combination of sweet, savoury and creamy. Their first batch sold out quick, so don't sleep on this one!
