This South Vancouver neighbourhood restaurant just moved locations

For the second time in 40 years of business.

Update April 26, 2023:

Neighbour’s Restaurant has officially opened its new location.

Its new home at 5108 Victoria Dr. opened for dine-in and take-out Wednesday. After 40 years in what it describes as a "quaint taverna vibe," the new larger location is a contemporary upgrade for the family-run business complete with a trendy new bar.

"Though the interior has been updated, the warm and friendly service that has made this iconic South Vancouver restaurant the destination for a romantic rendezvous, special celebrations and family dinners hasn’t changed," says owner Mitsy Tsoukas in a recent press release announcing the opening. "Neither has their Greco-Roman cuisine or their legendary pizza."

Original story March 29, 2023:

Since 1982, Neighbour's Restaurant and Pizza House has been located on Victoria Drive.

The Greco-Italian comfort food eatery has been a fan favourite with locals since it was opened by the family patriarch, George Tsoukas, 40 years ago.

Tsoukas would say, “the first time you come to Neighbour’s you’re a customer, the second time you’re a friend.”

Now run by Mitsy Tsoukas, Neighbour's is still very much a part of the community but they are temporarily pausing operations as of April 2 while they move into a new home.

Luckily for the neighbourhood, they won't have to wait long and the restaurant isn't moving far. In fact, it's the second move for the restaurant within only a few blocks.

Neighbour's is setting up shop at 5108 Victoria Dr near 35th Avenue and plans to be open for take-out in two weeks' time before fully opening for dine-in service by the end of April.

Back in 1999, when the block of 39th and Victoria was being redeveloped, Neighbour's moved down the street to 49th so, if anything, the casual family restaurant is moving closer to its original home.

The announcement from Mitsy Tsoukas and her team thanks "their loyal customers (friends)" and calls the move a "positive transition."

The new location will seat the same number of patrons and will have more parking.
